Opportunity offers current Wabash College student chance
to experience state government
(Indianapolis) – Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita is pleased to announce that David Wichlinski is currently completing the prestigious 2009 Indiana Secretary of State Fellowship Program. The summer-long program selects college and university students from around the state and allows them the opportunity to experience state government first-hand by rotating through the Secretary of State’s divisions.
“David exemplifies the kind of top-notch students we have here in Indiana,” Secretary Rokita said. “I feel that he is an individual who will help guide our state and country with his desperately-needed leadership in the coming years, and I’m thrilled to have him here, as he is a valuable addition to our office.”
Wichlinski will be a junior at Wabash College this fall, where he is pursuing a degree in political science with a minor in rhetoric. He is a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, the Sons of Wabash and the Wabash College Republicans.
“My entire time in the office has been far more engaging and enlightening than any other opportunity I’ve seized in the past,” Wichlinski said. “All my talents and ambitions are cultivated daily in a truly unique working environment.”
As a fellow, Wichlinski had the fortunate opportunity to sit in on a meeting between Secretary Rokita and the Chinese consul general from Chicago. He worked with team members to compile a follow-up letter to the consulate in order to cultivate pertinent communication lines between Indiana and the Chinese consulate, which exercised his critical thinking and rhetorical skills.
“The wisdom and career advice I have generously received will prove invaluable throughout my career,” Wichlinski said. “Contributing to this program with the future leaders of Indiana gives me great confidence in our generation’s ability to guide our state into the future.”
A 2007 graduate of Boone Grove High School, Wichlinski is the son of Robert and Lynnette Wichlinski. He will graduate from Wabash in 2011 and plans to obtain a Master of Business Administration degree. Once established, he anticipates supplementing his career with work in campaigns and public service.
