Indianapolis (September 1, 2007) – Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita has named Matt Tusing, former House Republican Deputy Communications Director, as Deputy Secretary of State and Chief of Staff. Rokita also announced staff transitions for Chris Naylor, lead attorney for Rokita’s Prosecution Assistance Unit, who will become Indiana Securities Commissioner, and Allison Fore, former Communications Specialist for the Illinois State Treasurer and recent gubernatorial candidate, who will become Communications Director.

Tusing, who currently serves as an Attorney General’s Office advisor on matters related to professional licensing and investigations, previously served Indiana as Deputy Communications Director for the Indiana House of Representatives Republican Caucus.

“Matt brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience from his work with the Indiana House of Representatives and the Indiana Attorney General,” said Rokita. Although Deputy Secretary of State Paul Okeson has done outstanding work on behalf of Hoosier voters and taxpayers, adding Matt as our new Deputy Secretary of State will allow us to build on our successes to date.”  After serving a standard two year tenure in the Office, Okeson is moving back to the Indiana private sector where he will focus on maintaining and building-up Indiana’s infrastructure.

Naylor, as Indiana Securities Commissioner, will lead the Indiana Securities Division, which plays a key role in oversight of the state’s securities and mortgage broker industries. As lead attorney for the Prosecution Assistance Unit of the Division, Naylor has worked on a number of high-profile securities fraud and mortgage fraud cases and contributed to the unit’s impressive 95 percent conviction rate. Naylor previously served as the Prosecuting Attorney for Jefferson and Switzerland Counties.  The current Securities Commissioner, O. Wayne Davis, is finishing his second round of service in the public sector, having served in several capacities with former Secretary of State Ed Simcox in addition to Rokita’s administration.

“Wayne’s three years in my administration has raised the standard of what we expect from our Securities Division,” said Rokita. “And I expect Prosecutor Naylor to use his skills and experience to serve Hoosiers during a time when our biggest personal investments--our homes, retirement plans and portfolios-- are at risk because of a shifting economy and even shiftier predators.  He is a dynamic leader, an experienced prosecutor, and unquestionably the right person to drive the Division forward at this time.”

Fore, a native of Rokita’s Lake County home, Munster, will lead his communications and outreach initiatives and be the principle contact for the media. In her role with the Illinois State Treasurer and gubernatorial nominee, Judy Baar Topinka, she spearheaded statewide initiatives and worked effectively with the statewide press corps on a daily basis.  Communications Director Jen Fanger, after serving in various office capacities over a nearly three year period is moving to the nonprofit sector where she will focus on school choice issues.

“I am pleased with Jen’s long term service to our office, but now I am even more appreciative that she is taking what she learned here to work on a very important issue that will determine the future success of our state,” Rokita said.  “I am also looking forward to the deep experience and energy Allison Fore will bring to the table.  She has a reputation for working honestly and efficiently with the media, who I believe are my constituents’ representatives.”

“Secretary Rokita is an energetic leader that truly lives and breathes Indiana whether here at home, or as part of his national roles. His honest passion and desire to build integrity in our elections and economic foundations is addictive,” stated Tusing. “I look forward to working with Chris, Allison, and the current staff as we continue to build on Secretary Rokita’s first term accomplishments and vision for the future.”
