Senate Mourns Passing of Long-Time Staff Member

(STATEHOUSE) Veteran Senate Democratic Caucus staffer Rick Gudal of Bloomington died last night in a one-car accident as a result of health problems. He was 55 years old.

Gudal served as a spokesman for the Minority Caucus for 17 years. He was precinct committeeman for a number of years in Bloomington and was well-known in his neighborhood for visiting every house in his precinct during each election.

“Rick is irreplaceable,” said Senator Earline Rogers (D-Gary). “An incredibly sweet and caring man, Rick was a bridge from our caucus to the public. He did his best to make sure that the people of Indiana were informed and had a voice. We were fortunate to work with him for so many years and mourn the passing of our friend.”

Senate President Pro Tempore Robert D. Garton (R-Columbus) said, “Rick’s kindness and genuine concern for his state exemplified the essence of a public servant. He was the quintessential legislative staffer. Rick was an outstanding contributor to the legislative process, and he represented his caucus effectively and honestly. His passing is a great loss to all of us in the Senate.”

Gudal is survived by his wife, Margaret, and children David, Ryan and Christopher.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced as soon as possible.
