Indiana Education Roundtable

Co-chaired by the Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction, Indiana's Education Roundtable served to improve educational opportunity and achievement for all Hoosier students. Composed of key leaders from education, business, community, and government, the Roundtable was charged with:

  • Ensuring the state has world-class academic standards for student learning;
  • Aligning the state’s ISTEP+ assessments that measure student achievement with those standards;
  • Setting the passing scores for ISTEP+; and
  • Making ongoing recommendations focused on improving student achievement to the Governor, Superintendent of Public Instruction, General Assembly, Indiana State Board of Education, and others.

The Education Roundtable was dissolved via legislative action effective July 1, 2015.

STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund

Indiana’s efforts to recruit more teachers into the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields received a major boost with the announcement of $9.7 million in funding from the state’s new STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund. Approved by the 2013 General Assembly. The grant program encourages the recruitment and retention of teachers in STEM fields. More than 115,000 new STEM jobs are projected for Indiana by 2018, with 40 percent requiring postsecondary education leading to an associate’s degree, and 60% requiring a four-year degree.
