The Facts...About Teen Drivers

Nearly 4 million new teen drivers are licensed each year.
Half of them will be involved in a crash before they turn 20!

Safe teen driving impacts everyone on the roadways.
In fact, according to some estimates, more than 60% of
people killed in teen driving crashes are not the teen drivers themselves.That's why, as a community, we must support our young drivers and encourage them to practice safe driving at all times.

Did you Know?

  • A 16-year-old driver is 10 times more likely to be involved in a crash than an adult.
  • Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15-20 year olds.
  • As a group, teenagers are more likely to speed, run red lights, make illegal turns, ride with an impaired driver and not wear seat belts.
  • Teens are also more likely to be distracted by music, cell phones and talking with other teen passengers-and the consequences of being distracted may be harder for a novice driver to deal with.
