Delegation will also participate in earthquake recovery activities
INDIANAPOLIS - Lt. Governor Becky Skillman will lead a delegation of business and community leaders on a jobs mission to Japan next month. This will be her fifth international trade mission as lieutenant governor.
The delegation will leave Indiana the week of Sept. 19 and return the week of Sept. 26. They will visit the cities of Tokyo, Ohta City, and Nagoya, as well as Tochigi Prefecture, Indiana's sister state. While in Tochigi, members of the delegation will assist in earthquake relief work.
"Our friends in Japan have been extraordinary business partners," Lt. Governor Skillman said. "We know there are more opportunities for job growth and investment to those U.S. states willing to put in the effort to build and maintain relationships."
Lt. Governor Skillman will deliver remarks at the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association meeting in Tokyo, meet with Japanese companies with Indiana operations, and host a reception for potential investors.
A delegation from the Indiana State Department of Agriculture will also be visiting China in September. Lt. Governor Skillman led an agriculture trade mission to China in June of 2010. Governor Daniels followed with a mission in November.
This will be Lt. Governor Skillman's first visit to Japan. She has also led delegations to Central America in 2005, Taiwan and Vietnam in 2006, Mexico in 2008, and China in 2010.
A full schedule and delegation list will be released when those details are finalized. The trip will be paid for entirely through private donations. The Japan-America Society of Indiana has assisted in the planning of this trade mission.
