(Indianapolis, Indiana) - The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today that it will continue accepting nominations for the 2011 Governor's Arts Awards to mid-January.
Guidelines and nomination form are available on the IAC website (www.in.gov/arts/2332.htm) and will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. (EST) January 14, 2011.
"We recognize how busy people are right before the holidays, and we want to make certain those wishing to make nominations have plenty of opportunity to do so," said IAC Executive Director Lewis C. Ricci. "We already have several excellent nominations."
Nominations originally made, but not selected for the 2009 awards will automatically be reconsidered for 2011. However, nominators may wish to submit updated information if there are significant changes in their nominee's accomplishments or contributions to the arts since the original nomination was made.
Questions regarding the 2011 Governor's Arts Awards should be directed to Rex Van Zant at 317-232-1273 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The IAC expects to announce next week the location of the 2011 awards program. In 2007, the IAC hosted the awards outside Indianapolis for the first time by taking the event to Bloomington. The practice proved so popular it was continued in 2009 when the event was held in Muncie.
That year, Governor Daniels presented awards to renowned opera singer Angela Brown, Indianapolis; The International Violin Competition of Indianapolis; Sweetwater Sound, Inc., Fort Wayne; Vectren Corporation, Evansville; the Ball Brothers Foundation, and the George and Frances Ball Foundation, Muncie.
Originally conceived in 1973, the biennial awards recognize excellence in artistic achievement, philanthropy, arts education, and leadership in the arts, and at the same time build statewide awareness of the important role the arts play in Indiana.
On behalf of the people of Indiana, the Indiana Arts Commission advocates engagement with the arts to enrich the quality of individual and community life.
