Asia Day Nine: Governor continues jobs trip in Japan; meets with companies investing in Indiana

NAGOYA, Japan (November 16, 2010) - Governor Mitch Daniels spent the second day of his jobs trip to Japan on the road thanking Indiana's current customers for their investments in Indiana.

Daniels traveled southwest of Tokyo by train to Nagoya and then on to the Aichi Prefecture to visit the headquarters of Toyota Industries Corporation, Aisin Seiki and Toyota Boshoku Corporation.

Toyota Industries Corporation is the parent company of Toyota Industrial Equipment Manufacturing, Inc. (TIEM) which operates a forklift production facility and a logistics center in Columbus. Company president, Mr. Tetsuro Toyoda and Governor Daniels met to discuss future growth potential of the company's Indiana business operations. TIEM currently employs approximately 1,000 Hoosiers.

Next the governor met with the leadership of Aisin Seiki, parent company of Aisin U.S.A., which is a large automotive parts supplier for Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana. In March, subsidiary Aisin Chemical announced a $9 million expansion of its Crothersville auto components manufacturing facility that will result in nearly 40 new jobs for the rural Jackson County community. Aisin has eight locations across the state with collective employment of more than 2,600 Indiana workers.

Later in the afternoon, Daniels called on Toyota Boshoku Corporation where he visited with company chairman, Mr. Teruyuki Minoura. In 2007, Toyota Boshoku announced plans to build a 200,000 square-foot metal stamping and assembly operation in Princeton and hire 200 team members. The company primarily supplies seat frames and components for the nearby Toyota assembly plant.

Japan-based companies are large contributors to the Indiana economy- more than 42,000 Hoosiers are employed by the more than 200 Japanese companies in the state with investments totaling nearly $10 billion. The governor will conclude the jobs tour tomorrow, meeting with Mr. Seiji Maehara, the Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, and lunch with company executives from KYB before flying back on Wednesday.
