SHANGHAI, China (November 9, 2010) - Governor Daniels and the Indiana delegation spent the second day of the China jobs mission renewing ties with existing Indiana investors and continuing to promote the state's business environment to prospective investors.
The governor met with executives from one of the leading pharmaceutical firms in China where company executives outlined their aggressive growth patterns and interest in investment opportunities in the U.S. market.
Daniels also visited with leaders from Techtop, an electric motor manufacturer which formed a joint venture with LHP Technologies and opened a 60,000 square-foot logistics center in Columbus this spring. Techtop's executive management team hosted Governor Daniels for a traditional Chinese lunch which included jellyfish, lotus root and other delicacies.
Leaders from Zhengzhou Dongfeng, one of the top Chinese auto firms, met with the governor in the afternoon to discuss the electric vehicle market and the company's joint venture with Cummins supplier Yinlun. In May, officials from Dongfeng visited Indiana for the U.S.-China Advanced Technology Vehicle Summit.
The governor concluded the day with an introductory meeting with an electrical power distribution company and a dinner with Chinese investment banking officials to introduce them to investment opportunities in Indiana.
While the governor conducted the various business meetings, members of the Indiana delegation spread out to various sites in Jiading, Wuxi and "Medical Valley," a place known for its concentration of pharmaceutical manufacturers, to introduce several automotive, energy and life sciences companies to Indiana.
On Wednesday, Daniels will meet with Chinese manufacturing companies, including suppliers for Cummins, before traveling to Hangzhou where the delegation will spend the remainder of the China leg of the mission.
