INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 2, 2010) - Less than one week before Governor Daniels departs for his jobs mission to Asia, Governor Lu Zushan of Zhejiang Province, Indiana's Chinese sister-state, visited Indiana to explore additional investment opportunities.
Governor Daniels hosted Governor Lu and the delegation of Chinese leaders at the Indianapolis Colts game at Lucas Oil Stadium Monday evening. During the two-day trip, Governor Lu also made stops at EnerDel's Hancock County lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility, the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis and the IU Simon Cancer Center.
"Our long-standing relationship with the Zhejiang Province has paved the way for our initial economic discussions in China and I am always honored to show our overseas friends more of what Indiana has to offer," said Daniels, who will also meet with Governor Lu in China next week.
Indiana's sister-state agreement with Zhejiang Province was inked by Governor Robert Orr in 1987. Earlier this year the state opened an office in Zhejiang Province following Governor Daniels' first official jobs mission to China in 2009.
The governor will depart Indiana on November 6 to lead a delegation of more than 40 Hoosier business leaders and elected officials on an economic development and jobs trip to China and Japan. This will be Daniels' second trip to China and fifth trip to Japan since 2005. He will travel in China to Shanghai and Hangzhou from November 7 to 13 and then go on to Japan from November 14 to 17, where he will visit Nagoya and Tokyo. Daniels will meet with government and business leaders in both countries and will host business receptions for potential investors.
Created by Governor Mitch Daniels in 2005 to replace the former Department of Commerce, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation is governed by a 12-member board chaired by Governor Daniels. Mitch Roob serves as the chief executive officer of the IEDC. For more information about IEDC, visit www.iedc.in.gov.
