Two public events will take place on Wednesday, April 11 regarding the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission's (IURC's) investigation of River's Edge Utility, Inc. Both events will be held at the Charlestown Community Center, 1005 Main St., Charlestown, Indiana:
- From 5:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., local time, the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) will conduct an information meeting. During the half-hour meeting, OUCC staff will discuss the regulatory process and describe public field hearing procedures.
- At 6:00 p.m., local time - immediately following the OUCC information meeting - the IURC will conduct a formal public field hearing to accept oral and written consumer comments. The comments will become part of the evidentiary record considered by the IURC in reaching its final decision in this case. Commissioners are not permitted to answer consumer questions during the formal field hearing.
River's Edge Utility is a for-profit entity that provides water and wastewater service to customers within the River's Edge subdivision in Clark County, Indiana.
The IURC is investigating matters related to the continued business practices of the utility, including the utility's lawful authority to provide sewer service as granted by the IURC.
The OUCC - the state agency representing consumer interests in IURC proceedings - has filed testimony in this case. At this time, the OUCC recommends that the IURC order River's Edge to comply with Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) directives and take reasonable steps to continue to provide service to each customer's home regardless of the home's construction.
Key documents in this case are available for public review at the Charlestown Library (located at 51 Clark Rd.) and are also linked from the OUCC Website.
Consumers who are unable to attend the April 11 events are encouraged to submit written comments to the OUCC in advance. Comments should include the consumer's name, address, and a reference to IURC Cause No. 43115. Consumers can send comments to the OUCC by mail, fax or the Internet:
