Porter County-Indiana State Police Trooper Lawrence McFarrin responded to a single vehicle crash early this morning where the driver died at the scene.
At approximately 1:52 am, this morning, a 1996 Toyota Camry was west bound on I-94 at the 18.5 mile marker (this is about a ½ west of the Portage exit) when it went off the road for unknown reasons. The Camry went off the road to the right (north) into the grass, into some trees. The car hit a tree head on, at the same time hitting a second tree with the driver's door; it then spun around hitting a third tree with the right rear. The Camry burst into flames, trapping the driver, who died at the scene.
The driver was identified as Louis C. Costanzo, 69 originally from Ludington, Michigan who had just recently moved to Shorewood, Wisconsin.
Family was notified.
The Camry was a total loss.
