Aerial treatments to disrupt the mating process of gypsy moths in Hobart for this year were successfully conducted and completed today. 

Treatment began in the early morning after showers passed. Two application aircraft and one observation aircraft monitoring the treatment aircraft for safety applied the pheromone flakes that release the scent of the female gypsy moth, thereby confusing the male moths so they cannot find females to mate. 

DNR ground observers within the treatment sites monitored the application and answered residents' questions as aircraft flew over. DNR will survey the site with gypsy moth traps later this year to evaluate the treatment's success.
