Lt. Governor Skillman Awards Chandler more than $3.8 Million for a New Water Treatment Plant
Lt. Governor Becky Skillman has announced that the Town of Chandler will receive $3,834,328 for a water infrastructure project, funded by an appropriation for disaster recovery efforts from the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
"We have made it a priority to leverage all of the resources we can to help stimulate economic growth in communities, like Chandler, that were affected by natural disasters," said Lt. Governor Becky Skillman. "Replacing the water treatment plant will make the city a more desirable place to live, work and do business."
Chandler will install a new water treatment plant with the grant funding, which will provide residents with improved water quality. It will remove high levels of iron and manganese from the current water supply as well as bring the city into compliance with environmental standards. It will also significantly increase the system's capacity to accommodate higher demand.
The total project cost is $7,563,482 for improvements to Chandler's water infrastructure. The city will also receive a loan of $2,950,000 from the State Revolving Fund (SRF) for the extensive project.
CDBG funds were made available to aid in economic recovery after several natural disasters caused damage in many areas across the state during 2008. Indiana's CDBG Disaster Recovery program is administered by the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. OCRA will also provide technical assistance to community leaders during the 18-month implementation of their storm water improvement projects.
