FORT WAYNE - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Fort Wayne District announces that S.R. 3/Lima Road northbound and southbound passing lanes, between Dupont and Carroll roads, are closed today, Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 6 a.m.
The contractor is excavating the median section and then placing hot mix asphalt to build the required crossover areas which will be utilized beginning next April with the scheduled 2010 work from Wallen Road to Dupont Road.
The passing lane closures will be continuous, so that the work can be complete by Thanksgiving.
Then beginning on Monday, Nov. 23, the northbound and southbound passing (left) lanes, between Wallen Road and Cook Road, will be closed for the same type of construction work.
With the City of Fort Wayne's ongoing water main work continuing, south of Wallen Road, there may be minor crossover closures as needed. The contractor is still relocating the water mains, but the work can now continue without restrictions of the main lane.
The intent is to have the crossovers closed for short periods of time, with motorists having to travel 500-800 feet to the next crossover. The entire water main placement project should be complete in two months.
As these two aspects of the project progress, other utility relocation work continues along the shoulders, and motorists should drive with caution through the congested areas.
