Pierceton Man Arrested After Leading Police On Chase with Meth Lab in Vehicle

South Whitley- A Pierceton man was arrested this afternoon after leading the Indiana State Police on a vehicle chase from the this small Whitley County town into Kosciusko County earlier in the morning.

State Police arrested 32 year old Shawn L. Jefferson of Pierceton after he allegedly fled from Trooper Joe McLaughlin who was attempting to stop Jefferson for a traffic violation.  At approximately 9:30 am, Jefferson, who was allegedly driving a white 1994 Jeep Cherokee, sped away from McLaughlin southbound on Main Street from Broad Street.  After proceeding westbound on State Road 14, Jefferson collided with another vehicle in a curve before heading into Kosciusko County.  The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

Jefferson drove his Jeep into a field in the area of 600 E, south of State Road 14, in Kosciusko County, before exiting and fleeing on foot.  A K-9 team from the Whitley County Sheriff Department arrived and shortly after beginning their track, they came upon a discarded cooler which allegedly contained items commonly associated with the production of meth.  A one pot meth lab was also located inside of the Jeep.  The Indiana State Police Clandestine Laboratory Team was then called in to render the lab scenes safe for evidence identification, documentation and collection.

At approximately 2:50 pm, information was developed as to Jefferson's whereabouts.  He was located and taken into custody by Trooper Todd Reed and a Whitley County Deputy at a residence in the 5900 E block of State Road 14.  Jefferson was then taken to and incarcerated in the Whitley County Jail.  Assisting with the search were the Whitley and Kosciusko County Sheriff Departments, the South Whitley and Silver Lake Police Departments and the Indiana Conservation Officers.
