Rep. Bell Announces Money Smart Fair

STATEHOUSE - Money Smart Week Money Fair, a Purdue Extension Service event, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, and will be at the Abundant Life Church in Fort Wayne, state Rep. Matt Bell (R-Avilla) said today.

A tireless advocate for financial literacy and coauthor of House Enrolled Act 1581, Rep. Bell is especially proud this event is coming to Fort Wayne. HEA 1581 requires schools to teach financial literacy to students in grades six through 12.

The Money Fair offers workshops, exhibits and speakers to help families improve money management skills.

"The money fair offers great programs that promote financial education and responsibility," said Rep. Bell. "Learning how to save money, balance a checkbook and plan a budget are vital skills in society today.

"Today's financial industry is much more complex than it used to be. Consumers have more choices and methods of handling financial transactions for small everyday purchases as well as buying homes. The more information available to consumers, the better."

The Money Fair is the kickoff event for the fourth annual Money Smart Week, which begins Saturday and continues through Oct. 17. More than 210 free educational classes, seminars and activities will take place around the state and focus on financial topics for all ages and walks of life.
