Crash on I69 Sends Fort Wayne Woman to the Hospital

DeKalb County-The Indiana State Police is investigating a crash that occurred between a passenger car and a semi tractor trailer this afternoon on I-69 in DeKalb County that sent a Fort Wayne woman to the hospital and slowed traffic for about an hour.

According to Trooper Brian Dunkin, at approximately 3:10 pm, a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Mildred W. Foltz, 81, of Fort Wayne was traveling northbound on I-69 in the right lane, north of the 122 mile marker.  Foltz made an abrupt left turn towards a turnaround reserved for authorized vehicles and in doing so, turned into the path of a 2000 Freightliner semi tractor trailer combination driven by Berthel E. Cunningham, 57, of Beecher City, Illinois.

Foltz's Cavalier was struck in the left rear area by the Freightliner's left frontal area causing the Cavalier to spin out in the median.  Foltz was taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with unspecified injuries while Cunningham was not injured at all.  Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.  The Cavalier was a total loss while the Freightliner incurred between $5,000-$10,000 worth of damage.

Assisting at the scene were the Auburn Police and Fire Departments.
