VINCENNES, Ind. -- The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces rising waters have caused the closure of roads in the Vincennes District. The closures will remain in effect until waters recede. The following sections of roadway have either been closed or INDOT is advising motorists to use caution around these areas of high water
Dubois & Perry Counties
State Road 145 from State Road 64 (Birdseye) to Interstate 64
Lawrence & Martin Counties
State Road 450 from U.S. 50 (Shoals) to State Road 37 (Bedford)
Orange County
NEW: US 150/State Road 56 from State Road 56 (Prospect) to State Road 37 (Paoli)
Orange & Washington Counties
State Road 337 from State Road 37 (Orleans) to State Road 56 (Livonia)
Perry & Spencer Counties
State Road 62 from State Road 545 (St. Meinrad) to State Road 145 (Possum Junction)
When encountering a flooded roadway, INDOT urges drivers to turn around and not drive through standing water. According to the National Weather Service, most flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Six inches of standing water is enough to cause passenger cars to stall and a foot of water will float many vehicles.
