Thirty regional arts providers to receive Arts Commission grants

The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today it will be awarding grants to 30 arts organizations and cultural providers in Region 8 during a special awards ceremony September 30.

Eight of the grants will be presented for general operating expenses for the organizations, 17 grants will be for projects taking place between July 1 and June 30, 2010, and four mini-grants will be presented for smaller-scale cultural projects.

The grants will be awarded at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, 114 E. Kirkwood, Bloomington. The program will begin with a brief reception at 6:00 p.m. with the award presentations beginning at 6:45 p.m.

The 30 grants to be awarded for Region 8 total $77,832 made possible through allocations to the IAC from the Indiana General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.

"These grants represent a significant public investment in the cultural and economic vitality of the region," said IAC Executive Director Lewis C. Ricci. "These organizations not only provide jobs which contribute to the local and state revenue base, they provide services for Hoosiers of all ages in a predominantly rural area of our state."

Region 8 includes Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, and Owen counties.

On behalf of the people of Indiana, the Indiana Arts Commission advocates engagement with the arts to enrich the quality of individual and community life.
