STATEHOUSE (Sept. 24, 2009) - State Sen. Sue Landske (R-Cedar Lake) confirmed today the State Budget Committee will consider a $5.5 million request from the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission to continue with northern Indiana flood control projects.
Lawmakers will meet on Friday, Sept. 25, at 9:45 a.m. in Room C1-400 of the Purdue Technology Center in Lafayette to determine which items on the agenda will receive formal funding approval.
"If funding is approved, construction plans for flooding protection along the main channel of the Little Calumet River can continue," Landske said.
Landske said the commission intended to use the funds to help acquire property, relocate utilities and a section of the Norfolk and Southern Railroad, and for repair and rehabilitation of levees.
Sen. Landske represents Senate District 6, which includes Benton, Lake, Newton and Porter counties.
