(STATEHOUSE, Sept. 21, 2009) - State Sen. Jim Buck (R-Kokomo) announced today a $1.7 million grant has been awarded to the Kokomo Board of Aviation Commissioners by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Buck said the federal pass-through funds would be used to extend and rehabilitate runways at the Kokomo Municipal Airport.

According to Buck, the grant money will result in three important improvements:

• Enclosure of Deer Creek, needed before the project can begin;
• Rehabilitation and extension of the main runway at the airport; and
• Remarking of the runway, so it meets current design standards

"This grant will help make the Kokomo airport safer and more functional," Buck said.
