FORT WAYNE - The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) is piloting a new service in the Fort Wayne metro area that allows customers to renew vehicle registrations by phone at the BMV toll-free number 1-888-myBMV-411 (1-888-692-6841). The announcement is part of an extensive marketing campaign in the Fort Wayne area encouraging BMV customers to use one of the Customer Choices options for BMV services rather than making the traditional visit to the license branch. Andy Miller, BMV Commissioner, made the announcement at Summit City Chevrolet, one of the 40 auto dealerships in the Fort Wayne area offering BMV services under Customer Choices program.
Miller explained, "Customers have busy lives and do not always have time to visit a license branch. We are making special efforts to remind them that there are a variety of ways for Hoosiers to conduct BMV many of their transactions. The option allowing customers to renew their vehicle registrations over the telephone is the newest choice that we are adding."
"The Customer Choices options are the most convenient way for customers to complete their simple, annual transactions like registration renewals. Also, the reduced number of branch customers allows our staff more time to serve those who need a driver's license or identification card, or must complete more complex BMV transactions."
The "Think Outside the Branch" marketing campaign is focused on the seven-county region surrounding Fort Wayne. The campaign began in August with radio and billboard advertisements. Signage is being distributed to Customer Choice partners identifying them as location for BMV services. Letters are being mailed to select customers in the area who have not yet renewed vehicle registrations for 2010 reminding them of the variety of Customer Choice options available.
The BMV's Customer Choices program across Indiana offers the opportunity to conduct registration transactions online at myBMV.com, through the mail, on the phone and at 336 auto dealerships, seven AAA branches, five Old National Bank branches, seven Clear Air Auto Check emission testing sites in Lake and Porter counties, 32 self-service terminals and by mail.
Miller noted that 2,292,612 transactions have been completed online or at Customer Choice partners so far in 2009. This compares to the 2,581,962 transactions completed in all of 2008.
