Yoder Appointed to Midwestern Higher Education Commission

Local legislator tapped by Senate Leader for five key committees, commissions

STATEHOUSE (August 25, 2009) - Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) today appointed State Sen. Carlin Yoder (R-Middlebury) as a member of the Midwestern Higher Education Commission.

Long also tapped Yoder to serve as a member of the Health Finance Commission, Regulatory Flexibility Committee, Interim Study Committee on Education and Indiana Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.

During summer and fall months when the legislature is not in session full-time, lawmakers utilize bipartisan interim study committees and commissions to conduct in-depth research into complicated, complex issues facing Hoosiers. Often their work results in solutions and legislation that might otherwise go unaccomplished during the fast pace of the winter- and springtime legislative session, Long said.

"Sen. Yoder brings significant experience and knowledge to these committees," said Long. "Through experience, sound foresight and innovative thinking, I am certain he will help lead these panels toward finding solutions for Indiana."

Yoder said he will closely watch developments of all study committees, review their recommendations and seek public input before the Indiana General Assembly reconvenes in January of 2010:

More information about committee topics, schedules and agendas will be available online at www.in.gov/legislative/interim.

Sen. Yoder represents Senate District 12, which includes portions of Elkhart County.
