LaGrange County-Troopers from the Indiana State Police post in Fort Wayne arrested a rural LaGrange County man and a transient woman on numerous drug related charges at a residence outside of Stroh early this morning, after responding to a call of a woman with a knife at that residence.
According to Troopers Brian Kreger and Jake Quick, at approximately 1:00 am, the Steuben County Sheriff Department received a 911 call from a woman indicating that she was being stabbed in the 10400 block of County Road 350 S, just outside of Stroh in rural LaGrange County.
Upon their arrival, and during a protective sweep of the residence, Kreger and Quick found a woman, later identified as Jilyan J. DeGraw, 27, no address, hiding under a bed in one of the bedrooms. During the sweep, they also observed marijuana in plain view which led to them obtaining a search warrant for the residence. It was later learned that DeGraw had cut a 35 year old female from Ligonier with a knife during an altercation over a man that they were both involved with. The victim did not sustain serious injury and refused medical treatment.
State Police K-9 teams of Master Trooper Gary Shenefield, his partner Beau, along with Trooper Pete Bradley and his partner Rex located a sizeable quantity of marijuana during the search of the residence. Methamphetamine, mushrooms, and other items commonly associated with drug usage and meth production were also located. As a result of the investigation, the homeowner, Timothy J. Hanselman, 35, and DeGraw were both arrested and incarcerated in the LaGrange County Jail. Hanselman is being held without bond while DeGraw is being held on both local charges as well as on warrants out of both Noble and Steuben Counties.
Assisting in the investigation were the Indiana State Police Clandestine Laboratory Team, IMAGE Task Force, LaGrange County Sheriff Department, LaGrange County Prosecutor's Office, and the LaGrange County Division and Family and Children.
