Who: The Indiana Department of Environmental Management
What: Celebrating the first anniversary of the "Hoosiers Care" initiative at the Indiana State Fair
Where: Indiana State Fairgrounds, Our Land Pavilion
When: Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 23, 2009
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) will be joining five sister agencies in celebrating the one year anniversary of the "Hoosiers Care" initiative. The Hoosiers Care booth will be located in the Our Land Pavilion, and staff will be presenting a daily recycling-themed stage show during this year's Indiana State Fair, set for Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 23, 2009.
"The Indiana State Fair is a perfect opportunity to reach out to Hoosiers on what they can do to protect their environment," said IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly. "Hoosiers Care has been extremely successful in encouraging Indiana residents to focus on making small changes that help our environment and save money."
An added bonus of making simple behavioral changes is saving money. "Walking to work or carpooling will save money that would have been spent on gas, while turning off lights when not needed will cut down on electric bills," said Commissioner Easterly.
Besides IDEM, the Hoosiers Care initiative is a collaborative effort of the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, the Indiana Office of Energy, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture and Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs. These agencies help educate Hoosiers on simple steps they can take to protect their environment. More detailed information about the Hoosiers Care program can be found at www.HoosiersCare.IN.gov.
All of the agencies will be located in the same area and share the Hoosiers Care theme. The partners will also be presenting the "Use your Brain" stage show game. This interactive game will quiz participants on their knowledge of environmental-related facts.
