In 1961, President Kennedy told Americans, "...ask what you can do for your country." This Independence Day, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) is asking Hoosiers to share what they are doing for their environment. Stories of personal environmental success, big or small, can be submitted online at www.HoosiersCare.IN.gov/5599.htm.

The Hoosiers Care program encourages citizens to take small steps that will help protect the environment while saving money. Easy tips to implement into daily life include using compact fluorescent light bulbs, fixing leaking toilets and faucets, and carpooling or planning trips to use less gasoline.

"Any action, when multiplied by six million Hoosiers, will add up to large, positive change," said Thomas Easterly, IDEM commissioner. "Sharing your story and your actions allows us all to learn and improve Indiana's environment together."
