INDIANAPOLIS - Andy Miller, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), announced that the Peru BMV license branch in Miami County will extend hours of operation on Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, 2009, to provide state-issued photo identification needed for the Miami County special election on June 20.
The Peru branch will be open on from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19, and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 20. Only driver's licenses and identification card services will be available during the extended hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, only driver's licenses and identification cards will be available from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The branch will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, June 23.
The Indiana BMV provides free, state-issued identification cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier, as long as he or she can provide proper documentation and is old enough to vote. The following documents are required to obtain a state identification card or driver's license:
- A primary document, such as a birth certificate or passport; and
- A secondary document, such as a pay check stub or a signed credit card; and
- A proof of residency, such as a utility bill.
