WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces State Road 1 (S.R. 1) lanes will be restricted on Tuesday, June 2. These restrictions allow crews to chip seal the road from State Road 38 to U.S. Highway 36, seven miles north of Cambridge City.
Flaggers will direct traffic around construction zones. INDOT cautions motorists to drive slowly to allow liquid asphalt and loose aggregate to bond and solidify. Pavement markings will not be placed until the chip seal has "cured."
The S.R. 1 chip seal project is a part of INDOT's Pavement Preservation Program which offers improved safety, fewer construction delays, and lower taxpayer cost. The new surface provided by a chip seal can last up to six years and often extends the typical life cycle of a roadway. The surface treatment, chip sealing, offers great benefits to the pavement at a lower cost than resurfacing the roadway.
The work schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather. INDOT reminds motorists to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, please visit www.in.gov/indot.
