INDIANAPOLIS - Andy Miller, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), announced that BMV license branches in Johnson, LaPorte, Morgan, and Porter counties will be open on Monday, May 18, 2009, and offer extended hours on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, to issue state identification cards and driver's licenses needed for special elections being held in those counties on May 19.
License branches in Johnson, LaPorte, Morgan, and Porter counties will be open on Monday, May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Branches will be open on Tuesday, May 19, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Branches offering extended hours include:
- Edinburgh
- Franklin
- Greenwood
- LaPorte
- Michigan City
- Martinsville
- Portage
- Valparaiso
The Indiana BMV provides free, state-issued identification cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier, as long as he or she can provide proper documentation and is old enough to vote on May 19, 2009. The following documents are required to obtain a state identification card or driver's license:
- One primary document, such as a birth certificate or passport.
- One secondary document, such as a pay check stub or a signed credit card.
- One proof of residency, such as a utility bill.
- One proof of Social Security number or Social Security ineligibility.

All license branches will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, May 20, 2009.
