Gypsy moth treatment in Allen County on Monday

LaPorte County sites to be done later in week

The gypsy moth aerial treatment originally slated for portions of Allen County this week, which were delayed by weather and poor leaf development in area trees, will be done on Monday morning, provided current weather patterns hold.

Treatments for LaPorte County, which also were scheduled for this week but delayed, are slated for later the week of May 11 to wait for more leaf development and dry conditions with little wind.

Maps of the treatment sites and further information about gypsy moths and the scheduled aerial treatments may be found on the DNR Entomology Web site at

In Indiana this treatment program, conducted by the DNR Division of Entomology and Plant Pathology, has kept gypsy moths in check and confined mainly to the northeastern part of the state for more than 25 years. This invasive pest species, originally from Europe, can attack more than 500 kinds of plants, primarily oak trees.

Those with questions may call the DNR, toll-free at 1-866-NO EXOTIC (1-866-663-9684) beginning at 5:30 a.m. on days treatments are scheduled; or 1-877-INFO DNR (1-877-463-6367), between 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  People may also contact their Purdue county extension office for information at 1-888- EXT- INFO (1-888-398-4636).
