State budget

"We had plenty of time this session to pass a legitimate budget that would protect taxpayers now and in the future. However, in a last-minute rush to pass a budget, we were left with very poor options for a finalized budget.

"The House Democrats wanted to spend our reserves and build federal stimulus money into the budget's base. Both are irresponsible, and both would lead Indiana off a cliff. What Indiana needed was a budget that would spend money only where it was needed. Unfortunately, we were not given that option."

Unemployment insurance

"Instead of finding a true solution to what made the fund insolvent, the bill merely gives the fund a quick fix for future legislators to solve. The problem will only get worse in time. There is no excuse for why we don't have a better, more organized solution."
