Sponsored by the IU School of Education at Indianapolis, Dr. Angela Valenzuela will lead a discussion about celebrating IUPUI/Latino community partner impact. Having received her PhD and MA in Sociology at Stanford, Dr. Valenzuela is currently a professor at the University of Texas in both the Cultural Studies in Education Program within the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and the Educational Policy and Planning Program within the Department of Educational Administration. She also serves as the Director of the University of Texas Center for Education Policy and the Associate Vice President for University School Partnerships in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement. Dr. Valenzuela has written extensively about Latino educational issues and actively advocates for Latino communities and youth at the Texas statehouse and beyond. On the 30th, Dr. Valenzuela will share with our campus information pertaining to the education of Latino/a immigrant youth. A discussion panel will follow Dr. Valenzuela's presentation and will include community partners such as La Plaza, in hopes of encouraging a rich discussion between partners, faculty members, and students about the impact of collaborations between IUPUI and the Latino community.
