Growth in exports sales can increase the bottom line for Indiana food and agriculture companies. To offer training and resources on how to export, the Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), Purdue University Department of Food Science and Food Export Midwest will present Exporting Value-Added Food Products on Oct. 31, 2008. The workshop will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and be held at the Indiana Farm Bureau Building, 225 South East Street in Indianapolis.
"Ninety-six percent of all customers live outside the United States," said Acting Indiana Agriculture Director Ken Klemme. "By offering exporting tools and resources to our agricultural industry, we empower them to grow their business and that strengthens the Indiana economy. We want them to leave the workshop ready to enact an international trade plan."
International trade is an important source for market growth for Indiana food and agricultural companies. Many Indiana food and agricultural products are already exported. In 2006, an estimated $2 billion of Hoosier agricultural products were exported, ranking Indiana 10th among the 50 states. Agricultural exports help boost farm prices and income, while supporting nearly 24,200 jobs both on the farm and off the farm in food processing, storage and transportation.
Exporting Value-Added Food Products features speaker Dennis Lynch, Food Export Helpline Consultant, who has counseled hundreds of food companies on export related topics. Also among the speakers are a representative from the Food Export Association of the Midwest and ISDA Assistant Director of Policy and Research Matt Harrod.
