OHL to Expand Its Plainfield Logistics Operations

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (Oct., 6, 2008) - Global supply chain solutions provider OHL announced today it will expand its operations here, creating up to 120 new jobs and new training opportunities for its 400-person central Indiana workforce.

The company, one of the largest third-party logistics providers in the world, will invest more than $11.3 million at its 3.2 million square-foot Plainfield campus and use a $200,000 grant from the state's Skills Enhancement Fund to provide advanced training to its expanding workforce

"OHL joins the long list of companies such as FedEx, Ryder and Amazon.com that have found Indiana's logistics infrastructure and workforce to be among the best in the nation," said Governor Mitch Daniels.

OHL will begin hiring additional distribution center associates immediately and plans to offer associates training in forklift operation, computer software and operating procedures.

"Because of the location and the quality of workforce, Plainfield has proven to be an ideal place for us to expand our operations," said Nathan Sanders, regional vice president, OHL. "Indiana has been especially accommodating and the Skills Enhancement Fund grant allows us to offer new and existing associates an even more comprehensive and complete training package."

Founded in 1951, OHL operates more than 120 distribution facilities totaling more than 25 million square-feet of warehouse space worldwide. The company employs nearly 6,000 associates globally and offers a wide range of services, including transportation, warehousing, customs brokerage and freight forwarding.

"OHL is an excellent example of a good corporate leader in Plainfield and Hendricks County," said Robin Brandgard, Plainfield town council president.  "Two years ago this company was recognized by the Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership with the Economic Development Leader Award and this year is assisting with its own United Way Campaign participation.   We offer our congratulations and look forward to working with OHL as they continue to grow in our community."

The announcement of OHL's decision to expand in the suburban Indianapolis town adds to Indiana's growing transportation and logistics industry. Indiana is home to more than 4,700 miles of mainline rail track, three international airports and more than 11,000 total highway miles. Each year, more than 720 million tons of freight travel through Indiana, making it the fifth busiest state for commercial freight traffic in the nation.
