Lt. Governor Skillman Awards North Spencer County School Corporation $150,000 for Workforce Development Project
Lt. Governor Becky Skillman recently awarded a $150,000 Rural Capacity Grant to the North Spencer County School Corporation to fund a workforce development project. The Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) administers the grants, which were created to support innovative workforce development and entrepreneurship projects in rural areas.
"Governor Daniels and I are committed to supporting workforce development and rural entrepreneurship projects, which stimulate Indiana's rural economies. Rural Capacity Grants encourage economic growth and prosperity throughout our state," said Lt. Governor Skillman. "This is one way Indiana can move forward toward a complete economic comeback."
The grant will fund adult education courses that develop necessary workforce skills. Courses are available to residents of Dubois, Perry, and Spencer counties and will be held at the North Spencer Alternative Education Center. They include: GED preparation, adult secondary (high school) credit, English as a Second Language, workforce education, and a job skills assessment program. The grant will also fund a financial sustainability plan for the North Spencer Alternative Education Center.
Rural entrepreneurial support grants aid rural entrepreneurs in locating mentoring, training, and resources. Workforce and educational development grants bring Hoosiers' skills up to globally competitive levels by creating opportunities for workers to move at least one step up the talent scale.
