GRIFFITH - Lake and Porter county residents can now renew a vehicle registration at a Clean Air Car Check emission testing site through a new partnership announced today by Ron Stiver, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and Brian Kieffer, General Manager of Envirotest Systems, the contractor for the state's emissions testing program.
The service will initially be available at the Griffith Clean Air Car Check site at 232 Ivanhoe Court South and will soon expand to all seven Clean Air Car Check locations in Lake and Porter counties. In addition to the convenience of drive-thru renewal services, staff at the emission test sites will also attach license plates and stickers to the customers' vehicles on request. Titling services will also be available in the future.
Stiver commented, "While we continue to reduce visit times and improve branch customer service across the state, we also want to provide Hoosiers with new and more convenient ways to transact BMV business. With the addition of Envirotest Systems as the newest partner in our Customer Choices program, we are pleased to announce that Lake and Porter county BMV customers will be able to experience one-stop shopping by renewing their plates at their emission test site."
Brian Kieffer, General Manager of Envirotest Systems, added, "Envirotest Systems is excited to work with BMV to bring a higher level of customer service to our mutual customers. With customers already visiting our Clean Air Car Check sites for emissions testing it only made sense to bring BMV services to the test sites."
Thomas Easterly, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, noted, "Envirotest has been an important partner in our northwest Indiana air quality initiatives with an emission testing program focused on customer service. Adding these BMV services will make the testing stations even more convenient for the residents of Lake and Porter counties."
The Customer Choices program now includes over 230 partner locations offering BMV services including 220 auto dealerships, five AAA Hoosier Motor Club offices, five Old National Bank branches and the BMV2You mobile branch. Additionally, any computer with internet access can serve as a virtual license branch, offering more than twelve BMV services, by establishing a myBMV account at myBMV.IN.gov.
Stiver noted the following related results:
- 2008 average statewide visit time (through August) is 8 minutes and 32 seconds. The average visit time across Lake and Porter county branches is 8 minutes and 17 seconds.
- 2008 customer satisfaction, measured through three surveys, is at 97 percent.
- Nearly 1.2 million customers have renewed their 2008 registrations online, collectively saving close to $6 million.
- Nearly 250,000 customers have established personalized myBMV accounts.
- Over 100,000 transactions have been processed at partner locations to date.
