INDIANAPOLIS- State Senator Karen Tallian (D-Portage) was recently appointed to serve on the Lake Michigan Marina Development Commission. Tallian was chosen to represent the towns of Burns Harbor, Porter, Ogden Dunes, Dunes Acres and Beverly Shore.
In addition to representing the five-town region, Tallian was also named Vice Chairman of the Commission.
"I am honored to represent the five communities on this commission," said Tallian earlier this week. "Our lakeshore is such an important amenity. Developing the lakeshore, while maintaining the area's environmental integrity, is a great concern to me."
The Lake Michigan Marina Development Commission (LMMDC) is part of The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, a regional planning commission established by resolution of the three Indiana Lake Michigan shoreline counties. The Lake Michigan Marina Development Commission considers various plans and recommendations concerning marina development along the Indiana shoreline of Lake Michigan and its immediate tributaries. The LMMDC also recommends state and local legislation for marina development and coordinates the implementation of the comprehensive plan and legislation.
