INDIANAPOLIS (August 15, 2008) - The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today released its latest monthly employment report.
In July, Indiana's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.3 percent. Indiana's rate remains lower than its neighboring states. The unemployment rate in Michigan is 8.5 percent. Michigan was followed by Illinois at 7.3 percent, Ohio at 7.2 percent and Kentucky at 6.7 percent. The national unemployment rate is 5.7 percent.
"There were more seasonal layoffs in the manufacturing sector than expected and that impacted the state's employment numbers in July," said Teresa Voors, DWD commissioner. "Employment increased in the construction industry as workers repaired homes and businesses that were damaged in the June floods."
