INDIANAPOLIS (August 14, 2008) - WorkOne of Northern Indiana is offering an eight-week series of career development workshops in Elkhart and St. Joseph counties to help Hoosiers market their skills and experience to potential employers.  The seminars, which begin the week of August 18, are being held in advance of a job fair at Indiana University South Bend in mid-October.

"These classes are specially designed for experienced workers who are seeking new employment opportunities," said Teresa Voors, Department of Workforce Development commissioner.  "Each week participants will learn important skills that are necessary for a successful job search." 

The three-hour workshops are free and open to everyone.  No advance registration is required.  The seminars will be repeated three times during the week, at various locations, to make them available to as many participants as possible.

Classes will be held on Mondays, at 9:00 a.m., at the Nappanee Public Library.  (The September 1 class will be held on September 2 due to the Labor Day holiday).  On Wednesday afternoons, at 1:00 p.m., the workshop will be repeated at the Newton Center in Lakeville.  Evening classes, on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m., will be held at the WorkOne office in Elkhart. 

A new topic will be explored during each week's workshop - concentrating on resume development, job search techniques and interviewing skills.  During the week of August 18, participants will learn about unemployment insurance and explore the wide variety of career services available through WorkOne.  On following week, attendees will learn how to develop and write their resume.  A complete class schedule and list of topics is available at WorkOne offices and on the DWD Web site at www.in.gov/dwd.

WORKSHOP LOCATIONS

Monday mornings of each week, starting at 9 am, classes will be held at the Nappanee Public Library. (Class will be held on 9/2 instead of 9/1)

Wednesday afternoons of each week, starting at 1 pm, classes will be held at the Newton Center in Lakeville.

Thursday evenings of each week, starting at 6 pm, classes will be held at the Elkhart WorkOne Center.
