State promotes opportunities for minority- and woman-owned businesses

INDIANAPOLIS (July 15, 2008) - More than 190 minority- and woman-owned businesses looking for State contracts will get a leg up today when they participate in Contact to Contract: Roundtable Connection, a day-long event designed to bring certified minority and women's business enterprises together with buyers from state agencies, universities, casinos, and private companies.

Organized and hosted by the Indiana Department of Administration's Minority and Women's Business Enterprises Division, in conjunction with the Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration, Contact to Contract: Roundtable Connection is a day-long conference designed to help build relationships between certified MBE and WBE suppliers and state and private-sector buyers.

"This event is about business growth," said IDOA Deputy Director Commissioner Alice Watson. "By making connections with state agencies, casinos, universities, and prime contractors we're providing certified MBE and WBE firms with access to new business opportunities."

The day-long conference features a town hall meeting and panel discussion, and workshop opportunities focusing on business development and contract participation. But the heart of the day is the Roundtable Connection. The Roundtable Connection provides participants with three highly-structured networking opportunities in which buyers meet with sellers in a roundtable format to discuss buyer purchasing needs and vendor products and services.

Contact to Contract: Roundtable Connection is sponsored by Indiana's Minority Business Enterprise Center and six of Indiana's State Institutions of Higher Education. The event takes place in the Indiana Government Center South Conference Center, located at 402 W. Washington St., Indianapolis. Participation in the event is by registration only. Registration is now closed.

The Indiana Department of Administration (IDOA) provides support services to state agencies. IDOA centrally manages activities relating to the Government Center Campus, state purchasing, the vehicle and aviation fleet, state travel, real estate leases, and property disposition, among others. Through its operations, IDOA helps to ensure the smooth function of state government, finding efficient and effective solutions to government-wide needs.
