Indiana Department of Labor Reminds Employers and Employees of Indiana's Minimum Wage Increase

Indianapolis, IN June 30, 2008-The Indiana Department of Labor reminds employers and employees that Indiana's minimum wage will increase effective July 24, 2008 in conjunction with the Federal minimum wage.

On July 24, 2008 the Indiana minimum wage will increase from $5.85 per hour to $6.55 per hour. This will increase again to $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009. Employers of "tipped employees" must still pay employees at least $2.13 per hour in addition to their tips.  If the tips do not add up to the minimum wage, employers must make up the difference.

Employers subject to the Indiana Minimum Wage Law may obtain the required posting by visiting the Indiana Department of Labor website after July 10, 2008 at www.in.gov/dol .

Lori A. Torres, Commissioner of Labor, reminds all employers of their duty not only to display the applicable poster, but to pay employees in compliance with the law. "Indiana employers employ about 3 million workers. It is part of our job to ensure Hoosiers be paid the wages that they are entitled to receive."
