Indiana Lt. Governor Becky Skillman today unveiled the winners of her 2008 Celebration of Hoosier Women Artists competition, held in conjunction with National Women's History Month's 2008 theme of Women's Art: Women's Vision. Lt. Gov. Skillman held the second annual art competition to highlight female artists from around the state and bring attention to their work.
"I am proud to support these Hoosier women and congratulate the winners," said Lt. Gov. Skillman. "It has been an honor to display last year's winning artwork in my office, and I look forward to enjoying the seven new pieces for many months. As we celebrate Women's History Month, it's appropriate that we recognize the many contributions women artists make in our communities."
More than 80 artists submitted work, and Lt. Gov. Skillman ultimately selected seven winners. The artists and their families joined the Lt. Governor and the Indianapolis Museum of Art Director and CEO Maxwell Anderson at the IMA for a showcase of the final selections. Their work be on display in the lobby of the Lt. Governor's office for one year.
