The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) is inviting public comments as it reviews the request of Ramsey Water Company, Inc. for an increase in its rates and charges.
The OUCC - the state agency representing consumer interests in cases before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) - has not yet taken a position on the utility's request but is currently scheduled to complete its review and file testimony in this case on Thursday, March 27. Consumers who wish to provide written comments on the case in the meantime may submit them to the OUCC's consumer services staff via mail, e-mail or fax.
Ramsey Water Company is a not-for-profit utility with approximately 5,300 residential and commercial customers in Harrison, Floyd and Crawford Counties. Under the utility's proposal in this case, the monthly residential water bill for a customer using 5,000 gallons would increase from $23.20 to $29.19.
In its testimony, Ramsey Water Company states that it is seeking the rate changes to cover increased wholesale water costs, increases in operating and maintenance expenses (including personnel costs and maintenance to wells, pumps, treatment equipment, booster pumps and storage tanks), and infrastructure improvements - specifically, main extensions, replacements and looping projects (connections of mains that currently dead-end) to be built through 2011. The utility's current rates were approved in 2002.
The OUCC needs to receive all written consumer comments in this case no later than Monday, March 24. Comments should include the consumer's name, address, and a reference to "IURC Cause No. 43413," and can be submitted by mail, fax or the Internet:
