(STATEHOUSE) Jan. 14, 2008 - State Rep. Cindy Noe (R-Indianapolis) joined House Republican Leader Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) on in the House Chambers today in a resolution to honor Dr. Russ Blowers, the late senior minister emeritus of the E. 91st Street Christian Church.
Dr. Blowers died at age 83 after a lifetime of service to his community, his congregation, his country and his God. He was a nationally renowned leader in the Christian community, counseling politicians such as Sen. Lugar (R-Ind.) and leading prayer before the Indiana House of Representatives, as well as the U.S. Senate.
Beyond his reputation with America's political leaders, Dr. Blowers is well-remembered for touching the lives of thousands in his ministry on the north side of Indianapolis.
"Russ Blowers affected my entire family with his teachings," said Rep. Noe. "My now-grown children remember him fondly even now, and while the loss of such a strong and loving Christian leader hurts all who knew him, we may rejoice in the knowledge that Russ Blowers is enjoying his heavenly rewards with his beloved wife, Marian."
Blowers' wife was stricken by Alzheimer's disease in the early 1990s. His commitment and loyalty to her in this difficult time served as an inspiration to many who knew him, as he visited her daily at a retirement home in her final years.
Rep. Bosma closed the presentation of the resolution, saying it was his honor to take this time to memorialize this great man who was not just a pastor, but a friend to so many.
Dr. Blowers' son, Phil, and daughter-in-law, Susie, were present to receive this honor on his behalf.
Rep. Noe encourages local constituents to contact her with questions or concerns through e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling the Statehouse at 1-800-382-9841. It is also possible to write her at 200 W. Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
