OUCC NEWS RELEASE, ISSUED 9-18-07:
The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) is inviting public comments as it reviews the Wildwood Shores Utilities Corporation's request to expand its Morgan County service territory.
The OUCC - the state agency representing consumer interests in cases before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) - has not yet taken a position on the utility's request but currently anticipates completing its review and filing testimony on Friday, October 12. Consumers who wish to provide written comments on the case in the meantime may submit them to the OUCC's consumer services staff via mail, e-mail or fax.
Wildwood - a wholly owned subsidiary of Aqua Indiana, Inc. - is authorized to provide sewage disposal service in a 6,500-acre area of Madison Township which is west of the White River and includes the Wildwood Shores subdivision. The utility indicates in testimony that it currently serves 84 customers.
Wildwood is requesting IURC approval to extend its territory to an additional 3,500 acres of agricultural and undeveloped land east of the White River. The proposed expansion area, according to Wildwood's testimony, will include The Stonebridge Club, a proposed 1,300 acre development to include 1,157 single family homes, 398 condominiums, town homes and villas, and 55 acres to be designated for commercial development. In its testimony, Wildwood indicates that it plans to construct a new wastewater treatment plant to serve the expansion area.
This case's public file is available for review on the IURC Website (www.in.gov/iurc), by visiting http://www.in.gov/iurc/portal/Tab.aspx?tabid=28&dn=SEARCHDOCKETEDCASE and entering docket number 43311.
Wildwood currently charges a flat monthly residential sewer rate of $27.00. However, this amount would increase to $41.44 under a settlement agreement currently pending before the IURC in a separate case (Cause No. 43233-U). The utility had requested a new rate of $48.00 before reaching the agreement with the OUCC.
The OUCC needs to receive all written consumer comments in the territorial expansion case no later than Tuesday, October 9. Comments should include the consumer's name, address, and a reference to "IURC Cause No. 43311," and can be submitted by mail, fax or the Internet:
