HEA 1821 takes effect on July 1, 2007. As of July 1, 2007, any occupational therapist who was certified on June 30, 2007 is automatically considered to be a licensed occupational therapist. This means that if you were certified as an occupational therapist on or before June 30, 2007, as of July 1, 2007, you will hold a license. New pocket cards (pocket licenses) and wall licenses will not be issued to currently certified occupational therapists until the renewal period that begins on November 1, 2008. However, all newly licensed individuals will recieve a pocket card with the new designation. We'll be updating our website to refer to licensed occupational therapists. There are some changes concerning referrals in the new law of which you should be aware. the Occupational Therapy Committee and the Medical Licensing Board will begin the process of updating the rules of the committee. UPDATE: The Medical Licensing Board will hold a hearing on the proposed rules on October 23, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. The Board will also consider the comments of the IEDC. Please submit any comments regarding the rules in writing to pla6@pla.IN.gov.
