Question: Do I need a high school diploma to get a real estate license?
Answer: No. You need to be 18 years of age, and take a 54 hour real estate pre licensing course, pass the course and examination to be license.

Question: How do I register for the examination?
Answer: You can register for the examination by contacting our exam provider, Promissor, at http://www.asisvcs.com/indhome.asp?CPCAT=0915REALAPPR. You will need to take your pre-licensing course certificate with you to the exam.

Question: How long after I take the course do I have to pass the exam?
Answer: One year for the date on you certificate of course completion.

Question: After I pass the examination how long do I have to apply for my license?
Answer: One year.

Question: Do I have to be a salesperson prior to being a broker?
Answer: Yes. For one year with an active license

Question: If I am with a referral agency is this considered active?
Answer: You are considered to have an current license, but are unable to practice the sale of real estate during this time. No continuing education is required if you are in the referral status and is required to move your license to Active status.

Question: Can I take the broker course before I have been licensed as a salesperson for one year?
Answer: Yes. But you cannot be licensed until you complete one year as a salesperson.

Question: Is there a fee to transfer your license?
Answer: There is a $10.00 fee to transfer your license. Please make your check payable to the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

Question: What states do we reciprocate real estate licenses with?
Answer: Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin.

Question: When I send in to transfer from my employer, when can I go to work?
Answer: After you receive the pocket card with your new employer's name on it.

Question: Do I have to pay a renewal fee if I elect to be inactive?
Answer: You must pay your renewal fee every two years to keep your license active, inactive or referral.

Question: What does inactive mean?
Answer: That you have not taken your continued education but have paid your required renewal fee.

Question: Will you issue my new license if I haven't found a broker to work for yet?
Answer: The license will be issued if submitted within one year after passing the examination and held by the state until you find a broker.

Question: What are the CE requirements?
Answer: Sixteen hours in the two year license period. Six of which must be in the three different mandatory subjects.

Question: What are the mandatory subjects?
Answer: License & Escrow Law, Agency Law, Civil Rights Law, Listing Contracts and Purchase Agreements, Settlement Procedures and Antitrust.

Question: Can I get an extension of time to get my CE to renew my license?
Answer: The Commission/Board does not grant extensions, however, you may go into the next license period to make up your deficiency. You may not renew "Active" until the deficiency is made up. All applicable late fees will be required to renewal after the expiration date.

Question: What do I do if I did not get all my CE hours by my license expiration?
Answer: You have to either make up the hours and renew late, or renew inactive and lose the hours taken prior to the expiration date.

Question: I just received my license, Do I need CE in this license period?
Answer: Salespersons licenses currently expire June 30, 2008. After this date licenses will then expire every two years ( June 30, 2010, 2012, 2014…) Licenses issued in the second year of the two year license period are not required to obtain any CE. A Broker license expires December 31, 2006. After this date, a Broker's license will expire June 30, 2009 and then every two years after that (June 30, 2011, 2013, 2015…)

Question: How do I report my CE?
Answer: Report the continuing education on the renewal application, send proof only when chosen for the random audit after the renewals are collected.

Question: Can I get my CE waived?
Answer: Waiver is available if one of the following is established. Service in the Armed Forces of the United States for one year or more of the two year license period. An incapacitating illness which has prevented either part-time or full-time employment for at least twelve months of the two year license period Licensee is affiliated with a broker for the sole purpose of making referrals to that broker.

Question: How do I apply for waiver of continuing education?
Answer: You would need to file an application for waiver if #1 or #2 from above is applicable. Referral waivers are automatically granted by indicating "Referral" on your renewal application.
