During the 2011 legislative session, Senate Enrolled Act 363 was passed requiring initial license applicants for certain healthcare professions to submit to and obtain a national criminal background check ("CBC"), through the FBI database, from the Indiana State Police, prior to being approved for licensure.
For the Board of Podiatric Medicine, this means that any applicant for a podiatry license whose application is postmarked or hand-delivered to our office on or after July 1, 2011, must submit to a CBC, which requires fingerprinting.
The CBC process begins with L-1 Enrollment Services. You are required to visit their website at http://www.L1enrollment.com/ and choose "Indiana", or, if you do not have access to the internet, call toll-free at 877-472-6917 to schedule your fingerprinting appointment. See below for more specific instructions on how to schedule your fingerprinting appointment.
There is a $42.20 fee associated with having the CBC conducted. This fee is paid when schedule your fingerprinting and is NOT PAID TO THE INDIANA PROFESSIONAL LICENSING AGENCY or BOARD OF PODIATRIC MEDICINE. If our agency receives the CBC fee, it will be returned to the applicant.
Please note that you cannot begin the CBC process PRIOR to submitting your application for a podiatry license. If our agency receives a CBC prior to receiving the application, the applicant will be required to submit to another CBC which will result in additional fees to the applicant!
If you are a podiatry resident applicant, you will NOT be required to submit to CBC. HOWEVER, if you apply for the full podiatry license, then CBC is required to be completed after submission of the new application.
