On May 9, 2007, Governor Daniels signed Senate Enrolled Act 320 into law. This law created the State Board of Massage Therapy and this new board will issue certifications to massage therapists who meet the specific requirements found in this new law. Click here for a copy of Senate Enrolled Act 320.

Governor Daniels appointed five (5) board members to the Board on January 1, 2008. The Board has began meeting on a monthly basis in order to promulgate the rules of the Board. Rule promulgation can take up to a year or longer to complete, therefore it may be some time before full implementation takes effect. After January 1, 2009, massage therapists will need to have obtained the state certification in order to continue calling themselves "Massage Therapists" or "Certified Massage Therapists".

Please check this website frequently for any updates in the implementation of the massage therapy certification program. Posted below are minutes, agendas, a list of Board members, and a list of Board meeting dates. All meetings are open to the public.

Please note that the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency is NOT a law enforcement agency. Should you have complaints regarding the specific activities of persons holding themselves out to be massage therapists, those complaints should continue to be directed towards your local prosecutor's office or local law enforcement. Please do not contact the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency with these types of complaints.
